Meet Captain Vale, Dolphin Protector, and Nature Enthusiast

Nestled within the enchanting beauty of Kotor, a city steeped in rich history, there’s a growing focus on preserving its natural environment. In the spirit of promoting Kotor as an eco-friendly destination, this website is dedicated to exploring environmental topics and highlighting inspiring stories of good practices. Today, we are excited to introduce you to a new member of our team, Captain Vale, a passionate advocate for marine biodiversity protection who delights in sharing his love for dolphins with tourists during his scenic tours.

Vasilije Kusovac, affectionately known as Captain Vale, owns a charming small boat that takes tourists on unforgettable trips to popular locations in and around the bay. With a degree in maritime transportation engineering and over 40 years of experience at sea, Vale boasts an impressive career. He has served as a chief engineer on various ocean-going ships, a maritime safety inspector, the director of the Port of Kotor, and now a lecturer at the Seafarers’ Training Center in Tivat and an entrepreneur.

Recently, Captain Vale joined a dedicated team focused on protecting dolphins and preserving marine biodiversity in the bay. Committed to upholding speed reduction laws in the bay, Vale’s vigilance allows him to frequently spot dolphins in the area. His fascination with these incredible creatures extends far beyond the bay, as he has enjoyed their playful antics and observed their behavior during his many ocean voyages.

On his tours, Captain Vale shares his passion for dolphins with tourists. Upon spotting dolphins, he stops the boat, turns off the engine, and provides guests with the opportunity to film and observe these beautiful mammals up close. Additionally, he shares intriguing facts about dolphins, such as their mammalian nature, distinct from fish, and their extraordinary abilities that set them apart from other marine life.

By facilitating these intimate encounters with dolphins, Captain Vale not only captivates tourists and boat owners but also actively supports DMAD/Montenegro Dolphin Research in adhering to dolphin observation guidelines. This collaborative approach ensures the well-being of the dolphins while offering tourists an unforgettable experience that underscores the significance of preserving marine life in the bay.
